“Everything should be done with love.”
- Amalia Talfeld
Born in USSR, Amalia grew up in a diverse family of builders: her dad was an Estonian military engineer and her Ukrainian mom had a very successful career as a fashion technologist. While her parents were busy providing for the family during the cold war times, from an early age, Amalia took responsibility for herself and ventured on a journey into the world of music, art, and architecture.
Amalia graduated with honors and got a full scholarship at the most prestigious Moscow Architectural Academy, with only one year of preparation. She graduated in 1991, worked for a German Commercial Developer Hohtief for a few years, and traveled to intern at UC Berkley in California. During her time on campus, Amalia met and worked with Frank Gehry and many other famous architects of that era.
When the news of the USSR crackdown broke out, Amalia made a tough call to go back and help rebuild the now-free country of Russia, starting her own architectural firm, 3A-Design, in 1996. At its peak, she managed 30+ architects working on various domestic and international projects, completing 150+ up-to-date.
In 2009, after having her third child, Amalia decided to allocate more time to the family and scaled down her practice to a dedicated team of elite architects working on boutique projects. Around that period, she began committing more time to painting, a passion that kept her inspired throughout the years.
This is when Amalia’s Workshop was born.
